Stems 20-40cm tall. Leaves sessile, ovate to elliptic, 7-15cm long, spotted but often only faintly so. Flowers stemless, petals deep

purple, narrow, 6-8cm long, curving inwards, the ovary 3-ridged with well developed awls at the top; scent spicy, banana-like. T.m. forma luteum has yellow flowers. Florida to South Carolina.
