Stems to 25cm tall but usually less. Leaves lanceolate, acuminate, to 10cm long; those on the stem below the rosettes usually scale-like. Flowers white, 1.2cm across. North-eastern North America, in woodland and peaty habitats up to subalpine levels. T.b. forma ramosa has branched stems.
