Tufted to small cushion-forming, usually less than 10cm tall in bloom. Leaves oblanceolate, 1cm or more long. Flowers white, 5-11mm long, in shortish racemes, summer. Northwestern North America, in mountain habitats. T. f var. idahoense is more congested, with smaller leaves and shorter racemes often less than 5cm in bloom. Mountains of Idaho only. T.f var. glaucum, syn. T. glaucum and T. hesperium appears to be an American version of T. montanum (q.v.) and is virtually identical.
