Leaves mostly basal, long-stalked, the blade ovate in outline, bi or tripinnatisect, to 3cm long, the ultimate segments linear, silkytomentose. Flowerheads 5-10mm wide, yellow, in small irregular corymbs, summer. Oregon and California, in grassland and sagebrush at 1500-2250m. T.p. var. nitrophilum is smaller, 5-15cm tall, with pinnatifid leaves and flowerheads solitary or in twos to fours. Idaho and Nevada, in dry mountain habitats.
