Rootstock fleshy bearing dense tufts of cylindrical, 2-5cm long leaves. Flowers 1-1.5cm wide, white or pink, in cymes on erect stems up to 10cm tall, summer. Minnesota and South Dakota to Arkansas, Texas and Arizona on prairies and mountain slopes to submontane levels in rocky soil.
