ex Benth.) Benth. Leaves ovate 1.5-5.5cm long, sparsely hairy, shallowly lobed, dark green above, paler beneath. Flowering stems 6-14cm high, with few-flowered racemes of broadly bell-shaped flowers having four-lobed 6-9mm long lavender-blue petals, the upper lobe larger than the others. Western North America in moist, shady woodlands. S.r. var. cordata, syn. S. rotundifolia is similar but with more heart-shaped leaves. Oregon and California. S.r. 'Ollalia Violet' has deep violet flowers.
