Small clump-forming, 10-20cm high, sometimes to 30cm Leaves long-stalked, mainly basal, rounded to reniform, mostly deeply three-lobed, the lobes crenate or again lobed, 2-4cm across, those on the stem smaller. Flowers white, 8-15mm across, in corymbose panicles, summer. British Columbia to California and the Rocky Mountains, amongst seasonally moist, more or less shady rocks at 1500-1800m.
