Tufted glandular pubescent perennial with ascending to erect branched stems 10-3 0cm long from slender rootstocks which can have narrow tuberous roots. Leaves lanceolate to narrowly ovate, 4-10cm long. Flowers to 2cm across, summer. Washington State to California and the Rocky Mountains, in meadows and open conifer forest where the soil is damp, at 1200-2600m.
