Stems up to 40cm or more in height, broadly winged. Leaves shorter, to 6mm in width, often slightly glaucous-green. Spathes two. Flowers 2.4-3.5cm across, bright yellow with dark veining, summer. California, north to Vancouver Island, in moist habitats. The plant long grown as S. brachypus is a dwarf hardier form, from the north of its range, rarely exceeding 15cm in height, with relatively broader, richer green leaves.
