Tufted and cushion-forming, with flowering stems to 15cm tall. Leaves mostly basal, linear to narrowly lanceolate, l-2cm long. Flowers solitary or in twos and threes, about 1cm in diameter, the bilobed petals white, sometimes tinted lavender or green, mid to late summer. Oregon and Washington State at alpine levels in the Cascade Mountains. The allied S. sargentii is similar but a little larger in its parts, with flowers white, pale rose or purple. California and Nevada at alpine levels.
