Rather similar overall to S. poeppigii var. discoideus (see S. depressus) including indumentum, but more neatly compact, not exceeding 15cm high in flower and with almost imbricate leaves which are oblong, usually entire with bluntly rounded tips, 2.5-3.5mm wide and scarcely narrowed to the base. The short flower stems are only 8-15mm tall, summer. Argentina mainly, also Chile, scattered along the length of Andean Patagonia at 250-1600m.
