Botanical Description

Hamet var. densirosulatum (11). Rosette-forming biennial or sometimes an annual. Leaves succulent, acuminate, dull green, 2.5 by 1.5cm with intricate red markings. In the wild the paniculate inflorescences tend to be short and compact, in the alpine house they are usually up to 18cm and weak. Flowers several to many, bell-shaped, yellow mottled with red. Western China; Yunnan. S.i. var. yunnanense is smaller with more dense rosettes, leaves almost terete and lanceolate, very dark green to dark wine and almost black, softly hairy throughout. Can survive a mild winter outdoors, 'Cristatum' is a fasciated form of this variety, best watered from below.
