Botanical Description

Very variable in foliage and habit. Usually forms a fairly compact cushion of short suberect leafy shoots, but varies sometimes to make a loose mat of procumbent stems. Leaves 8-25mm long, stalked, the blade wedge-shaped, usually three lobed, densely hairy but sometimes glabrous. Flowering stems 6-25cm high, slender, bearing two to five pure white flowers, petals 6-10mm long. North-western and central Europe, including Ireland, local. S.r. subsp. sponhemica differs only in horticulturally unimportant points.
