Plant with few rosettes. Leaves all basal, elliptic, 2-3cm long, coarsely toothed and narrowing to a long petiole.
Flowering stems 5-10cm tall carrying one to five white flowers with orange spots at the base of the 8mm long petals, carpels deep red to chocolate giving the striking effect of an almost black centre. Central Nepal to south-western China on stony slopes at 4100-4900m. Recently introduced into cultivation and proving amenable, setting seed freely.
