Botanical Description

Makes loose cushions of bright green rosettes. Leaves glandular-hairy 5-15mm long, semi-circular in outline and deeply three to seven lobed, the lower ones having very long petioles. Flowering stems 7-12cm tall, bearing three to seven rather small flowers with white petals 4-5mm long and numerous summer-dormant axillary buds. Southern Spain on limestone rocks and cliffs. Needs to be treated as an alpine house plant but not very showy. S. erioblasta, S. spathulata and S. oranensis were once considered as varieties of this species. Conversely S. granatensis and S. gibraltarica are now plunged within it.
