Botanical Description

ex Torr. & Gray. (syn. S. virginiensis var. californica). (12). More or less tufted, with a few rosettes of ovate to oblong-elliptic, denticulate to serrate leaves l-5cm in length. Flowering stems 10-3 0cm tall, branched towards the tips, glandular-pubescent. Flowers in loose corymbose cymes, white with rounded petals to 5mm long, the sepals and young seed capsules often purplish. South-western Oregon and California, mainly below 1000m, in scrub, chaparral, mixed and pine woodland, often on grassy banks. Probably best in the alpine house. Not particularly decorative.
