Botanical Description

Forms a tight mat of very small, compact rosettes only 4-5mm across made up of 3-6mm long heavily lime-encrusted spathulate leaves recurved from near the base. Flowering stems 5-10cm tall, very slender bearing four to five relatively large, pure white flowers, petals 5-6mm long. Mountains of central and southern Europe on limestone screes and rocks. Although widely spread in the wild this is not an easy plant in cultivation and it is most likely to persist if grown in tufa. It is a dainty and decorative in a modest way and worth persevering with. In the garden it is best kept out of full sun.
