Botanical Description

loose mat-former with prostrate, slightly prickly stems and erect flowering shoots 10-20cm long. Leaves evergreen, broadly heart-shaped, 3-5cm long, toothed and sometimes incised, prickly long-stalked. Flowers to 2cm across with a prickly calyx and narrowly obovate white petals, early to late summer. Japan, in woodland.
