Botanical Description

Rhodolirion montanum). Leaves 10-15cm long by 2.5-3.5mm wide, usually appearing well after flowering. Stems 10-25cm tall. Flowers usually solitary, to 6cm long and 8cm across, slightly nodding, white or rich pink with greenish-yellow bases and crimson guide lines often broken into streaks and dashes. Chile and Argentina, in open steppe communities and bare soil patches at 1800-3500m. A true alpine bulb which forms clumps in the wild and is perhaps the finest member of the genus. [Pl.423].
