Botanical status undecided, although generally accepted as being a natural hybrid of R. rubra and Leucogenes leontopodium. First described from Mt. Holdsworth in the Tararua Range of North Island and now known to occur fairly widely there. In character falls roughly mid-way between the two presumed parents, with leaves intermediate in size and hairiness but the colour of L. leontopodium. Not difficult to cultivate in a pot under cover and grows quickly into a moderately tight dome which is extremely attractive. Large plants are very vulnerable to mildew. Cuttings taken in late spring will root but are by no means easy.
