Botanical Description

Small clump-forming, with flowering stems to 15cm in height. Leaves linear, deep green. Flowers one to ten, pure white, about 2cm in diameter, late spring to summer. Pyrenees, mountains of northern Spain, Alps and Corsica, in damp grassland usually over limestone. R.p. subsp. plantagineus has broadly lanceolate leaves (Alps only). Subsp. alismoides has lanceolate leaves and usually simple stems either leafless or with one leaf only (Sierra Nevada, Spain).
