Botanical Description

with flowering stems 30-60cm high. Basal leaves cut into three to five segments which are further divided into several narrow toothed lobes. Flowers several to many, 1.8-2.5cm wide, rich yellow, late spring to summer. Europe, except the west and some of the south, in woods, scrub and grassland. Not unlike the better known R. acris and hardly suitable for the rock garden. R.p. subsp. polyanthemoides can reach 1.3m. in height and is even less desirable. R.p. subsp. thomasii is 10-30cm tall with simple or sparingly branched stems, and might be worth cultivating.
