Botanical Description

Tufted to clump-forming with fleshy roots and prostrate to ascending flowering stems 5-15cm long. Basal leaves orbicular to obovate in outline, entire to shallowly three to five-lobed, rarely deeply and narrowly dissected. Flowers one to six per stem, yellow, sometimes aging white, with lavender-tinted sepals, 1.2-2.5cm across, spring. British Columbia to South Dakota and California, in sandy soils in sage brush, at about 1500m.
