Botanical Description

Tufted to clump-forming with cylindrical tuber-like roots, the stems 20-30cm tall. Basal leaves deeply three to five-lobed or pinnate, the lobes or leaflets oblong to linear. Flowers pale yellow, up to 2.5cm wide, spring. Eastern North America from Ontario to Texas, on open slopes or in open woodland, often in thin, limey soils.
