spreading by stolons, with flowering stems up to 30cm but usually less. Basal leaves kidney-shaped to rounded, crenate or dentate, semi-glossy. Flowers solitary or up to ten, 6-10mm across, composed of five to twelve narrow yellow petals and a prominent cone-shaped boss of carpels, late spring to autumn. North America and Mexico, naturalised in Eurasia and South America, mainly in salt marshes and sea shores. Mentioned as a warning; not worthy of rock garden space and likely to be invasive.
