Tufted from a thick rootstock with fleshy roots. Flowering stems 10-15cm in height. Basal leaves lanceolate to narrowly ovate, usually with wavy margins, glaucous. Flowers solitary or in twos or threes, white or palest mauve-pink, to 5cm across, winter to spring. Morocco, high up on rocky slopes in the Atlas Mountains. Frost hardy, but best admired in the alpine house where the flowers (which can appear early in the year) are protected from wind and rain.
