Leaves ovate to semi-orbicular, up to 5cm long, more or less crenate to entire. Flowers opening flat, lilac to violet with an orange to yellow eye, 3-3.5cm wide, usually with four but sometimes five petals, one to four on glandular stems 6-8cm tall, late spring. Southern Yugoslavia and northern Greece, in shady rock crevices usually on limestone. R.n. 'Alba' is white-flowered. A smaller, neater plant than R. myconi but uncommon in cultivation. Probably best in the alpine house.
