Botanical Description

Height 5-15cm in flower. Basal leaves evergreen, few if any hairs, pinnate with three to five toothed leaflets. Stem leaves stalkless, united below. Flowers erect when open, campanulate, 4-6cm across, white suffused with blue outside, with silky white hairs. Europe and Siberia, in alpine grassland and stony slopes at 1300-3600m. One of the most beautiful species for the alpine house, raised or scree bed.
