Botanical Description

The largest of the Arthritica subsection of section Auricula. Leaves 2-10cm long and l-4cm wide, broadly rhomboid to obovate, obtuse, leathery and shiny, the outer lying almost flat on the ground. Flowers 2-4cm wide, pink to lilac with a white eye, in umbels of up to five on 2-15cm high stems. Only found in the Lake Garda region of northern Italy at 500-2500m. on limestone rocks. Very beautiful in its best forms, and a good plant for a trough or raised bed, but flowers more poorly as it ages.
