A little-seen relative of the primrose from the NW Caucasus. Leaves kidney-shaped to rounded, leathery, dark green above, densely white-woolly beneath, 3-5cm in length and width, on longer stalks. Flowers blue-violet with a yellow eye, 2.5-3cm across, in umbels of one to three on stems to 6cm high. Dombai, Taberda Valley, wet mossy forest, especially near waterfalls, 1200-2100 m. Not easy in cultivation although very desirable and probably not grown in the west in 2016.
