A splendid central Himalayan relative of the Nivalid subsection Agleniana. Erect leaves arise from large, farinose, bulb-like resting buds. Leaves spear-shaped, 10-30cm long with thick yellow farina beneath. Flowers drooping, bell-shaped, somewhat zygomorphic (two-lipped), white, cream or pink, to 3cm across in umbels of five to ten on stout farinose stems 30-45cm high. East Nepal, Sikkim and west Bhutan in very wet areas, on open slopes and among shrubs, appreciating well-dunged sites, at 4000-5000m. Difficult in cultivation, but has been flowered on several occasions.
