Botanical Description

An Armerina species with 2-4 glabrous, green, sub-orbicular, spreading leaf blades, lacking meal, about 2.5 cm with long narrow petioles. Scapes greatly exceeding the leaves, bearing 2-8 flat-faced rotate white to pale pink flowers with a yellow annulusand long erect glabrous pedicels subtended by bracts with hanging pouches. Petal-lobes slightly notched, flower diameter 12-16 mm. An extraordinarily widespread species, circumarctic (including N Europe and America) and further south in N China (to N Sichuan), NW Himalaya, Altai etc. Wet meadows, outwash gravels, moraines, very wet at flowering time. An insubstantial plant, usually rather plain, which can nevertheless be flowered in cultivation.
