A close relative of P. farinosa from north America. The only heterostyle Aleuritia in America. Leaves oblanceolate to spathulate l-7cm long and up to 1.6cm wide, sometimes toothed in the upper half. Flowers lilac to lavender with a yellow eye, to 15 mm across in umbels of one to ten on slender, erect farinose stems 3-21cm tall. White forms are known. North-eastern U.S.A. and most of the boreal forest zone of Canada west to the Yukon. Shores of the Great Lakes, hot springs, calcareous flushes and damp calcareous cliffs, 0-1500m. Short-lived in cultivation and not very distinct.
