Botanical Description

A seldom-seen member of section Cortusoides, usually proving to be P. polyneura. Unlike the latter, leaf-veins radiate within an orbicular shallowly 7-9-lobed blade. Shortly rhizomatous, not creeping. Leaves cordate at the base, to 8cm long and 12cm wide. Flowers red-purple, funnel-shaped, 1.5-2.5cm across on red pedicels, in  two to three whorls on delicate stems 20-40cm high. Japan, northern Honshu, Hokkaido and Korea, open forests in mountainous areas.
