Botanical Description

A relative of P. tschuktschorum in section Crystallophlomis, but larger and more vigorous, with up to 10 purple rather flat-faced homostylous flowers borne together in a one-sided umbel. The corolla-tube is >1.5 x the length of the calyx and the leaves exceed 4 mm in width. Late snow-beds from sea-level to 1200 m from around the Bering Straight, southern and western Alaska, Kuriles, Pribilovs, Aleutians, Kamtschatka. Very difficult in cultivation.
