Branches few to many from a rubbery, yellowish taproot, each one bearing a
rosette. Leaves round to kidney-shaped, 7-30mm long, usually flattened-toothed at the tips, with long spoke-like petioles, thick and leathery with a greyish patina. Umbels globular on stems up to 25cm tall. Flowers twenty to thirty-five, reddish-brown to purplish, 2-3mm across. Central cordilleras to central Andean Patagonia, on volcanic slopes, screes and soil pans, usually bare, from 1000-3700m depending upon latitude.
