Tufted and woody-based with more or less decumbent stems 10-30cm in length. Leaves digitate, composed of five to seven, l-3cm long, oblong-obovate leaflets with a few apical teeth and silvery pubescence. Flowers white, 1.4-2.2cm across, in numerous loose clusters, late summer to early autumn. Mountains of southern Europe, usually in limestone crevices. A variable species in the overall size of its stems, leaves and flowers.
