Botanical Description

(syn. P. stansburyi compacta var. viscida). Woody-based and tufted, 10-20cm tall. Leaves linear to lanceolate, ciliate and glandular-pilose, 2.5-4.5cm long. Flowers about 2cm across, purple, pink or white, sometimes having a pale eye ringed with radiating dark lines, in fairly compact clusters of three to fifteen, spring to summer. Mainly Washington State, north-eastern Oregon and Idaho with a few scattered localities southwards and a larger colony in Arizona, in open woodland on stony slopes at 800-2000m.
