Botanical Description

Mature plants with clustered rosettes. Leaves fleshy, about 5cm long, obovate to rhomboid or broadly spathulate, slightly crenate and densely hairy, short-stalked. Flowers violet-purple, 1.6cm or more across, on pedicels up to 9cm long. South-western China, in dry stony grassland at 2400-2700m where it is subject to snow and frost. However, in cultivation it seems to need a frost-free environment.
