Botanical Description

Stems 20-60cm tall. Leaves entire, elliptic to ovate, up to 12cm long. Flowers violet to dark purple, lavender, or cream, sometimes vari-coloured. 1.8-2.8cm long, the lower lobes longer and often drooping. Dry meadows and open or lightly wooded, often rocky slopes well up into the mountains, often near the timberline in Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico. Dark flowers over lax rosettes for part shade and good loamy soils. Different and easy.
