often mat-forming subshrub. Flowering stems up to 1.5cm tall. Leaves white-cinereous with reflexed
appressed, flattened, scale-like hairs. Leaves spathulate or obovate, 6-18mm long, entire mucronate. Flowers blue to blue-purple to violet, 1-1.8cm long. White calcareous clays or sandy soils in sagebrush and pinyon pine-juniper communities and subalpine slopes in Nevada, California, Utah and Arizona at 1500-2000m. Highly variable in ascending versus mat-forming habits, flower colour and leaf shape. Heat-loving, needs perfect drainage.
