Botanical Description

Stems 5-20cm tall. Leaves entire, sometimes folded, basal ones up to 3.5cm long. Thyrse of two to four densely flowered verticillasters, flowers 1-1.6cm long, deep blue-purple. Moderately moist subalpine and alpine meadows, often around melting snowbanks at 2200-400m. in the Sierra Nevada of California and Nevada. Highly variable.
