Botanical Description

Low shrub 10-30cm tall, with thick, elliptic leaves 1.5-3.5cm

long. Flowers bright purple to deep blue-violet, 3-3.8cm long. Open or wooded summits and slopes at moderate elevations in the mountains of Oregon north in the Cascades on the west side of the divide and in the Coast Ranges south to Tillamook County. For cool soils in part sun. P.c. 'Roseus' is a superb bright pink dwarf form that thrives in rock gardens.
