Botanical Description

Stems 18-60cm tall. Leaves glabrous, coriaceous, ovate to round with deep marginal toothing resembling a holly. Flowers in loose clusters well above foliage, 2.5-3.5cm long, deep crimson. Crevices of limestone, among oaks in Big Bend area of Texas at 175-870m. Blooms on and off all summer. Unfortunately tender, but one of the loveliest penstemons for the alpine house or subtropical climates.
