Botanical Description

Stems arising from a central, branched, woody caudex, 10-40cm tall, usually glandular hairy in the inflorescence. Leaves 1.5-5cm long. Flowers 1.5-2cm long, blue (to pink); verticillasters less loose than in P. wilcoxii. British Columbia and Alberta to Montana and Idaho in dry, open, rocky places from foothills to high elevations at 800-2000m. Grades into P. humilis in the Owyhee Mts. of south-western Idaho. Often vigorous and long lived in the garden. Highly variable.
