Botanical Description

Douglas ex Lindl. [4] Stems thick, 25-60cm tall. Leaves glabrous and glaucous, thick, fleshy, entire, 4-10cm long, lanceolate to ovate. Flowers 1.1-1.5cm long, cymes congested and many-flowered, crowded by broad bracts. Sandy soils, often on sand-dunes in sagebrush country at 650-1400m in Columbia River basin and western Snake River plains of Washington, Oregon, and Nevada. A challenge to grow. Requires hot, sandy soil.
