Basal leaves broadly ovate to oblong up to 7cm in length, almost leathery and bluish-green. Stems 20-60cm in height, with or without one sessile leaf. Flowers to 3.6cm across with conspicuously veined, oval to oblong petals and three-pronged staminodes equalling the stamens, late summer to autumn. North-eastern North America in wet calcareous soils.
