Botanical Description

Dusen Cushion-forming to 10cm across by 3-8cm tall in bloom, with a scaly rhizomatous root system. Leaves palmate, composed of five to twelve leaflets each one rounded obcordate, infolded, 7-22 by 4-20mm, deeply notched and red edged. Flowers solitary, white, often blushed pink, or pink throughout with darker veins, l-2.5cm long and more across. Argentina and Chile, rare in the latter country, in southern Andean Patagonia on soil slopes and screes around summit ridges, also in the deep wet sand of upland river courses at 800-1600m. Considered to be a choice and lovely species maintained in Scottish gardens from a Tweedie introduction. [Pl.327].
