Botanical Description

Gillies ex Hook. Bulbous and densely clump-forming, 8-13cm in height. Leaflets usually about twelve, rarely up to twenty-two, obcordate and glaucous. Flowers widely funnel-shaped, to 2.5cm long, white with lilac to purple veins, often with purple-flushed petal tips, late spring to summer. O.a. 'Rosea' has pink, purple-veined flowers. Chile and Argentina at alpine levels in open, stony places. Hardy out of doors.
