Very similar to O. microphylla but downy and somewhat larger and looser in all its parts. Flowers to 3cm long velvety scarlet to rich orange-red, the base of each lobe with two parallel yellow honey guide lines. Chile, in the Andes between Santiago and Valdivia, rare. A record for Argentina has been discredited. Recently, seed of this species, collected by Flores and Watson (January 1993) has resulted in several reported germinations to date. The plants were growing on damp vertical cliffs in the wild. [Pl.321].
